Israel was established as an independent state back in 1948.
There were multiple individuals responsible for the creation of Israel, mostly including top-ranked British individuals and Zionists or Jews.
Before Israel, there was an independent state of Palestine. Zionists owned some land, but the population consisted of 90% Arab Muslims and Christians with a small minority of Jewish people.
The Balfour Declaration identified non-Jewish people with “civil and religious rights” but never recognized them as having political rights.
It was issued by Arthur James Balfour, who was nicknamed “Bloody Balfour” for disregarding local rights when they conflicted with imperial priorities.
Palestine suffered political fragmentation, economic disadvantages, and had no control over British decision-making.
Zionists were allowed to build institutions, schools, defense groups, and economic systems under British protection.
In 1947, Britain handed the issue to the UN, which proposed a Partition Plan granting Jews 50% of Palestine's land despite owning only 10% at the time.
This led to the 1948 war and the Nakba (“catastrophe”), where over 700,000 Palestinians were displaced or fled.
On October 7th, 2023, Hamas launched an attack on Israel, killing thousands of civilians and kidnapping many, including women, children, and the elderly.
Israel responded with massive attacks on civilians in Gaza. What began as a “right to defend” is widely seen as genocide.
While Hamas had historical grievances, the Israeli response has led to immense suffering and loss of innocent lives.
This page aims to raise awareness of the Palestinian struggle and calls for an end to human rights violations.
